:
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Richard P. Jasper -- Did they shoot... : ...all the copy editors? Mothers Against DRINK Driving. Obviously incorrect tenses. Comma splices. Uncapitalized words at the beginning of sentences. And, no, darling, if you are in the middle of the island of Manhattan you don't head EAST to get to the Hudson River. All those (every other page!) minor irritants aside, a very satisfying conclusion to the Merchant Princes / Empire Games saga, with the usual hefty dose of Strossian snark regarding American imperial overreach and security state nastiness. Four stars instead of five because of the non-existent copy editing. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2021 )
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars from LA in Dallas -- Mostly satisfying conclusion to a long series : Invisible Sun is the final book in Charles Stross's Empire Games trilogy, which is the final trilogy in Stross's Merchant Princes Universe trilogy of trilogies. It is really the final book, not just the latest one to come out. Stross assures us that the series ends here -- that while he may conceivably set another book in the Merchant Princes Universe, this particular story, the story of Miriam Beckstein and her extended family, ends here. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Chairman Now -- Stross Lands the Plane : Stross ties it all up and concludes the series on a crescendo. As strong and enjoyable as any of the previous books, perhaps one of the best of both series. Thanks for getting it done, Mr. Stross, and I will miss Miriam and company for a long while. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Mike Andrews -- A fitting end to a wonderful series. : As I went through this book, I found that there were wheels within wheels, and yet more wheels appeared. The scale is grand, the characters real and not cardboard, the narrative fascinating, the baddies not always bad by nature, the good guys not without their flaws, and the content compelling. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Stuart Abramson -- I like this book : I like this entire series, but I like the last three books the best. Well-written, good characters, good plot. This book ties the last three books up. Neatly. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 8, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kindle Customer -- Strossian fantasy par excellence! : I've been waiting for this book for years, and now I have it, much more than I expected. Great personal growth and characterization, astounding invention, great climax in all the various storyline. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2021 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Kindle Customer -- Sad this is the last book : I love this series and I feel short changed with the final book. I felt not enough time was spent on the people we all came to love in earlier books. Too much time on the multiverse background story. It was still a good book ( Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2021 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from James Dykstra -- not they same old Stross : Less comedy but many more anxious moments for the goos guys! Worth reading but prepare to read to the end. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Potter Heigham -- Worth the wait.. : A book I both wanted to savour and to read quickly. The end of my favourite series of Charles Stross books, and a very satisfying one as well. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 9, 2021 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from DiveDoc -- Whoosh! : No book including the offspring of Project Orion could be bad, but throwing away a good idea in the face of authorial ennui is looking like a bug in Charles Stross’ operating system. We have lost the Eschaton, the spies of the Laundry and, now, the Burgeson clan and a proper story of the Swarm… ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 6, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from J. O'BRIEN -- A fitting end to an epic series : Merchant Princes, and Empire Games, is a series which thwarts predictability at every turn. If you thought you had the measure of the series from Miriam’s first jaunt, you didn’t. And then you didn’t again, and again, and again, until you reach the glorious crescendo of plotlines that is this book. A worthy capper to a series that deserves to go down as one of the greats in… um… whatever genre this is. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 3, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from John Grieve -- We get the ending we need : Techno thriller, space opera, political commentary, family drama are all here as Empire Games races to a conclusion. Imagine world's where the USA has picked on an enemy that is more than it's own size. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 14, 2021 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Shaun Murrant -- A good ending for this story : The previous books in the series set up a dire situation for all involved. How it plays out makes for compelling reading. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 10, 2021 )
